The NEBOSH General Certificate is Suitable for Everyone

The National Examination Board in Occupational Safety and Health - in short, NEBOSH - is an independent examination board accrediting qualifications in health, safety & environmental practice and management. NEBOSH accredit a comprehensive range of globally-recognised, qualifications designed to meet the health, safety and environmental management needs of all places of work.

NEBOSH qualifications are recognised by relevant professional membership bodies including the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (IOSH), the International Institute of Risk & Safety Management (IIRSM) and the Institute of Environmental Management and Assessment (IEMA). There are three categories of NEBOSH qualification - Award, Certificate and Diploma.

Award-level qualifications provide a basic understanding of health and safety principles and practice and provide a perfect introduction to other NEBOSH qualifications.

Certificate-level qualifications provide an excellent foundation in health and safety for managers, supervisors and people starting out on a career in health and safety.

Diplomas are professional qualifications for health, safety and environmental practitioners.

The workplace is made up of several different components at any given time. There are different people all engaged in different functions - the managers, the workers, contractors or suppliers, visitors etc. And the facility where the entire work takes place accommodates machinery, equipment, furnishings, systems, and many other mechanical instruments. Bringing together this number of factors presents the possibility of an accident or an injury occurring - and regardless of whether you're a top executive or one of the newest recruits, you need to have the proper knowledge and skills to prevent or manage such risks to your own health and safety, and that of others.

For this reason, the NEBOSH General Certificate is an ideal choice of course for pretty much all employees no matter what their particular job role, as it is suitable for workers in all positions. Managers and employees from all types of organisations who need a broad understanding of health and safety issues and risks would benefit from acquiring the NEBOSH General Certificate. The Certificate will help them manage risks effectively, and is frequently taken as a first step in a career in health and safety, with a number of students enrolling upon the higher level NEBOSH Diploma qualification, or specialising in the construction or fire niches which other NEBOSH courses, after successfully achieving the NEBOSH General Certificate-level qualification.

This NEBOSH National General Certificate is designed for supervisors, managers and employee representatives and is an industry-standard qualification. More than 75% of safety, health and environment (SHE) job listings have it as a formal requirement, underlining its importance and respectability amongst potential employers.

Whatever the exact reasons for wanting to study for the NEBOSH General Certificate, the course gives participants a thorough knowledge of the essentials of health and safety. Those that achieve the qualification will have a much greater awareness of health and safety risks in the workplace, and will be better able to minimise the probability of accidents and harm befalling themselves or others in and near the workplace.
