NEBOSH General Cert.

NEBOSH General Cert

Overview:

At Sterling Safety Training, we run the NEBOSH General Cert. across the UK at venues in Nottingham, London, Manchester and Bradford. The course is designed to provide a broad understanding of health and safety for managers, supervisors, and indeed any member of staff responsible for health and safety in the workplace. The NEBOSH General Cert. qualification is recognised as one of the leading health and safety qualifications in the world, and is taken by many looking to progress further in the world of health and safety, for example becoming a trainer or health and safety consultant themselves.

NEBOSH General Cert. Syllabus:

Because the objective is to provide a broad understand about different areas of health and safety, the course syllabus of the NEBOSH General Certificate covers a lot of different health and safety topics. Whilst this large range may appear daunting, the course does not go into minute detail about each one, but merely provides the necessary information that those taking the course are likely to encounter in most workplaces. In fact, most delegates enjoy looking at these different areas rather than having to focus on one specific topic for an entire week or two! Those who decide they do want to focus on specific areas can progress to the more specialised courses at a later date if they so wish, such as the NEBOSH Fire Certificate and the NEBOSH Construction Certificate, which look in detail at the health and safety issues and legislation regarding fire and construction sites respectively.

The NEBOSH General Cert. course syllabus covers the following:

  • Health and safety foundations
  • Promoting a positive health and safety culture
  • Policy
  • Risk assessment
  • Organising for health and safety
  • Principles of control
  • Monitoring, review and audit
  • Incident investigation, recording and reporting
  • Work equipment hazards and control
  • People and vehicles: hazards and control
  • Manual & mechanical handling hazards and control
  • Electrical hazards and control
  • Fire hazards and control
  • Construction hazards and control
  • Chemical & biological health hazards & control
  • Physical & psychological health hazards & control

  • Assessment

At the end of the course, delegates take two written examinations which last two hours each, and a practical assessment which involves a visit of a work site to conduct a safety inspection and the production of a formal report under examination conditions.

Those that successfully pass all areas of the assessment are awarded the NEBOSH National General Certificate in Occupational Safety and Health.
